joshwongart.com created an incredible series of pieces exploring
Sabriel and where it draws its themes, emotions, and imagery from. It's hard to put it into words and I highly recommend checking it out!

Katie Conrad has another art concept here for the bells. I like the inscribed faces and her descriptions on why each one depicts who it does.
